Recordist's notes
I am sitting at the edge of a glacial lake with my recording parter, Vicente Yáñez. We're at 2,200 meters. Tonight, we lodge at the Neue Fürther Hütte. We are recording the sounds of long thin waterfalls pouring into the lake from all sides. I remember seeing ice around this lake when I came here as a child. I came here today expected to record the glaciers, but they no longer exist. Perhaps they haven't for quite some time. This lake and the waterfalls are the remnants of the ice that once rested in this massive crater. The water is dark emerald, freezing cold and smooth as glass. The songs of the ancient ice echo in the running water that flows from the peaks down to the river, carrying sand, soil and endless stories of change. (Recorded with Zoom H1.)
