Recordist's notes
This year there are many sparrows nesting in the roof and in the garden. Their insistent call has really defined the texture of this spring and summer, a constant sonic presence in the garden. They especially like to sing in a nearby walnut tree but also in the tree which is next to this in the neighbouring garden. I strapped my recorder into the tree one fine afternoon to document these special sounds. You can also hear the red kites and the crows that live in our neighbourhood. I really love these sounds as a kind of foreground for the background sounds of where we live - the vague and omnipresent traffic bass; the deep blurry presence of planes in the sky; and the soughing of the wind through all the close together suburban gardens... you can hear blackbirds too. Sorry it's a bit peaky in places... the sparrow got quite close to the recorder I think. Maybe he wants to be a rockstar of aporee.
