FRAPPANT vs. IKEA - Furniture Store- Hamburg Moorfleet, WC, Smaland#4

Official plans of future urban development in Hamburg aim to restructure the Große Bergstrasse in Hamburg-Altona. One aspect of the plan is the construction of a large inner city store by the IKEA corporation on the site of the former department store "Frappant", actually used as studios and music venues by artists. There is a public controversy on this gentrification policy (http://keinikeainaltona.de). During the Workshop "Listening to the City" (www.fsk-hh.org/kolleg) the two sites – Frappant in Altona and the IKEA store in Hamburg-Moorfleet – were acoustically mapped. You find the sounds of the Ikea furniture store layered on the map of the Frappant building, next to sounds of the existing space. Offizielle Umstrukturierungspläne in Hamburg sehen vor das ehemalige Kaufhaus „Frappant“ in der Altonaer Großen Bergstrasse – seit 2006 Ateliers und Veranstaltungsräume – abzureißen und den Bau eines innerstädtischen IKEA Möbelhaus zu fördern. Es gibt eine öffentliche Debatte um diese ökonomisierende und gentrifizierende Stadtpolitik. (http://keinikeainaltona.de/) Bei dem Workshop „Die Stadt hören“ (www.fsk-hh.org/kolleg) wurden das FRAPPANT in Altona und das IKEA im Hamburger Stadtteil Moorfleet kartiert, der jeweilige Raum auf seine akustischen Eigenschaften untersucht.
