Recordist's notes
This is a very pleasant surprise on a day of lovely weather, warm, sunny and blue. When I was young yellow hammers (yellow bunting) were common in the UK countryside. We always heard them on visits outside the city. Today they are long gone. I never hear them in those places anymore. My mother said that the song was the bird saying, 'a little bit of bread and no cheese' and that if you remembered those words you would remember the song. And this has remained true ever since. I have not forgotten the phrase or the song. So it was great, personally significant, to find this bird singing here in Berlin. There was a second one in the distance and a blackbird adds its voice too, together with passing cyclists and planes.
