Recordist's notes

St Saviours Bridge is a wood and metal footbridge crossing St Saviours Dock, where the underground River Neckinger flows into the Thames, now part of the Thames Riverside walk. It is a place heavy with atmosphere, surrounded by historic wharehouses that hark back to the London of Charles Dickens and the immense power of the British Empire. Tower Bridge looms round the corner and the river is alive, grey and glistening just in front of you. The tides are dramatic, rising and falling by 4 metres or more and the river's strength palpable. Contact mics were placed on the wires of the bridge structure, where they pick up the vibrations and tremebling caused by people's footsteps, the buffeting wind and the slosh and slap of waves resonating the metal.
