Recordist's notes
This is the sound of the shetland sheep at the Voe Show in Shetland. Like most of Shetland, this is a treeless region, so there is a lot of wind. Although this makes for a blowy recording, it also means that you can hear rosette ribbons won by different sheep fluttering in the breeze! The sheep are all in pens, and are grouped together as rams, ewes, and lambs. There are three main prizes in each category. Shetland sheep are the backbone of the Shetland wool industry, and - judging by the beautifully stacked and very desirable fleeces just a small distance away in the wool tent - most of the animals in this recording will have their fleeces counted amongst the Shetland wool clip.
