Recordist's notes

We are sitting with Jimmy, outside his office, in the courtyard Café of the GoDown Art Centre. The afternoon traffic on the dusty road outside the gate is relentless, and all kinds of activities going on around us; but never mind.. here we are deeply engaged in a conversation around freedom, art and public space… A day before, performance artist Ato had been arrested during her performance “Freedumb” outside the Kenya National Archives. Jimmy had been involved in the negotiations with the chief of police that followed… “Jimmy Ogonga Jimmy is a vagrant amnesiac. from time to time, he takes photographs, makes videos, talks (negatively) too much and scribbles with the intention that someone might read his nonsense.he occupies a small white space, which he calls CCAEA, where he spends too much time. his first family is in nairobi, so chances are high that he might be there too, most of the time.” See also: http://www.nairobi-arts.org/ ,
