Recordist's notes

Vogelgezwitscher. Aufnahmegerät: Tascam DR-40X The barrier post 48 on the railroad embankment in Lindau is a special feature in many respects. It is located in the southern track triangle of Lindau, where the lines from Friedrichshafen, Bregenz and Lindau meet and lead over the embankment to the island station. In addition, this barrier post is one of the few remaining ones where the barriers are still operated by hand crank. Unfortunately, the years of the track triangle, on which there is still a very pretty old stationmaster's house, are numbered, as the railroad company wants to completely restructure the site and abolish the level crossings. In the audio recording, you can hear the bell ringing as the barriers close and the passing of two regional trains, as well as the subsequent opening of the barriers. Although non-employees of the Deutsche Bahn are not allowed to linger between the barriers while they are closing, I was allowed to position the recording device there. This results in a nice stereo sound that you don't normally get to hear. The sound is accompanied by conversations between the two barrier attendants, waiting or passing pedestrians and cyclists as well as nature sounds, e.g. birdsong. Recording device: Tascam DR-40X
