[1]kim1: greetings from a sunny coastal town [1]kim1: south of san francisco [2]uno: applaus over... [1]kim1: I'm going to be performing a piece that was done in [1]kim1: collaboration with Leif.e.Boman [1]kim1: who in 1998 was invited to Sarajevo [1]kim1: to make a piece dealing with the war there [1]kim1: he went to a small suburb [1]kim1: and collected blocks found in the rubble of a bombed residential home [1]kim1: he then took those blocks and built a wall [1]kim1: surround a soldiers HQ [1]kim1: surrounding [1]kim1: which was part of an art exhibition [1]kim1: he then took samples from the materials used in the blocks [1]kim1: and performed a emission spectroscopy analysis [1]kim1: and turned the frequencies into sound files [1]kim1: so what I have done is to take the sound files of the Sarajevo Wall [1]kim1: and turn them into a sort of sound wall [2]uno: john explains ... [1]kim1: its hard to create a piece which has any relation to the pain and suffering of war [1]kim1: but I just tried to construct my own version of a wall using the sound files that leif sent me [1]kim1: I am indebted to all who helped make this possible [2]uno: kim: question: how loud we have to play it? [1]kim1: rinus, udo, jodi, leif [1]kim1: play it at a good volume [1]kim1: but not too loud [1]kim1: it is not meant to simulate a war ;) [1]kim1: its just an abstraction of a wall [1]kim1: are there any questions? [2]uno: no questions... ;) so: START it... [1]kim1: ok I'm going to start the piece now [1]kim1: it started [2]uno: no... [1]kim1: it is playing here [1]kim1: is it not playing there?
