Recordist's notes

Cape Perpetua is a spectacular place. It is part of the Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon State, a huge expanse of now protected forest along the coast here. Many hikes are mapped out from the visitors' center. One is to the forest's oldest Sitka spruce (500 years) about 1mile from the center. It is indeed an impressive tree towering up into the hazy light, covered in moses and lichens. It is an extremely quiet spot except for the small stream, Cape Creak, bubbling musically nearby and the voices of people who have made the walk to the tree. People are often very friendly. One explained that her small dog liked wearing a coat because it gained confidence from doing so and another said that her dog wore pyjamas to go to bed. After a conversation about the relative sizes of trees in the USA and UK an elderly couple from Oklahoma presented me with a blue butterfly fridge magnet saying I had been choosen by Jesus to receive one. Apparently a lady in their state has made 100,000 of these to give away appropriately in his service. About 1min into this track a raven flies overhead.
