Recordist's notes

This recording was made as part of the research process for a work for resonating double-bass and string quartet. I worked with Shirley Pegna and Emma Welton on the project. This sound was created by resonating a geophone signal through a double-bass via a transducer. The recording was made using an AKG C411L contact microphone attached to the double bass and routed to an Edirol R-44. The crackling rumbles in the soil are created by local traffic, the M5 motorway and the train mainline from Exeter St.David's to London Paddington. The location of the recording was a ridge above the millenium field in Thorverton, Devon, UK.
