Recordist's notes

This is a fairly amateur recording, but it is one Ive been trying to get for a couple of weeks now. The sound under the bridge when a freight train comes past is quite other-worldly, and very different from the passenger train. I have tried to capture this many times, but the timing is awkward as I need to cycle quickly from work to catch this particular freight train. Sometimes I'm too late, sometimes I'm early and I leave before its arrived. What I love about it is how quickly the sound attacks after a very feint and relatively long build-up. The locomotive is quite loud, and the following carriages are relatively quieter. However, the sound just vanishes as quickly as it attacks when it leaves the bridge and leaves you in a relative silence. The bridge underneath is an interesting shape - I will take a photo of it and add it to this description. zoom h2n surround mode. zoom windjammer. ATH-Mx40 headphones. Fun fact: The two toned whistle sound at 1:59 - I didnt hear that at the time, and there wasnt anyone around that I was aware of. Interesting sound, and is perhaps something from the docks, but it certainly sounds like someone whistling near me, but there definitely wasnt anyone there. Recorded on a Zoom h2n, surround 4ch mode. ATX-M40x headphones. Cheap selfie stick screwed into h2n with fur attached to reduce handling noise.
