Recordist's notes
Margaret Munkuli records her mum, Ester Munenge singing a lullaby for a boy (...you can hear the little boy's reactions in the background...). Such songs are created by mothers for their children and usually sung while the mother is working, baby on her back, in the fields, fetching water, or working at home. Today the custom is slowly getting lost and it’s mainly the older women who can still sing such songs to please and calm a baby. a recording from the radio project "Women documenting women stories" with Zubo Trust, a women’s organization in Binga Zimbabwe bringing women together for self-empowerment. http://www.zubo.org
