Recordist's notes

Simply think this could be our home. It would be only the right words I could use. Goussainville Vieux-Pays is the name of this village. It's nearly a dead city. During the year 1973, ADP (meaning Paris Airports) built the Roissy airport. Goussainville Vieux-Pays is exactly below the called '27L' take-off runway of the airport. The area is classified as an "intense noise" landscape. All the year 1973, ADP made proposals to buy the houses, double price compared to the normal price. Initially populated 1000 inhabitants, a large part of the village moved. On the same time, the 3 June 1973, the Tupolev plane Tu-144S CCCP-77102 crashed just near the old village, on the occasion of Bourget show, destroying a school. It made a large trauma. During the 1974 year, 700 inhabitants leaved. All houses were walled with blocks. But 300 inhabitants absolutely refused to leave. Actually, Goussainville Vieux-Pays is a strange landscape. Nothing moved during 44 years. All houses are still closed with walls, in a terrible feeling of abandonment. The 300 habitants leaving here enjoy rents half cheaper, but it is really a choice ? The question is there. I hid a recorder in the cemetery and simply had a walk in the nearby dead city. I made an one hour recording, without travesty, without any mockery, thinking to the persons leaving here. It's the first time I was questing plane sounds, not grumbling about it. You could hear this recording as planes take-offs and that's all, but I think there's something more important in this sonority. There's a loud and unwieldy significance. Below the overwhelming sound, in a ravaged landscape, people are living. This could be us. But in fact, how this lifetime is possible ? That's why, to my mind, this recording is important.
