Recordist's notes

This recording is part of an on-going collaboration with the Channelsea river by artist duo Blanc Sceol (Stephen Shiell & Hannah White), through their varied work with moorings and conservation cooperative, Surge Coop, which they co-founded in 2018. Since then the river has become a key collaborator and their artistic work has become entwined with this river work, with listening & sound practices opening new approaches to conservation. The river is a site of tensions and contradictions - a recovering landscape that is home to the 3rd largest sewer outfall in Europe. The recording was made remotely via a live stream box situated on Channelsea Island - a man-made island in the middle of the Channelsea river, long since abandoned by industry and now a growing naturally-established woodland on contaminated soil. It was part of Sound Camp's 'REVEIL' platform - 24+1 hr live stream of the dawn chorus as it travels around the world.
