Recordist's notes
Resting from Opera Festival. The rhythmic, high-pitched, and melancholic call ("chiù... chiù") belongs to the Eurasian Scops Owl (Otus scops), commonly known in Italy as the Chiù. It is a small migratory nocturnal bird of prey, widespread in Sicily and along the slopes of Mount Etna during the warm season. Key Features of the Call and Species: The Call: A short, monosyllabic, flutelike whistle repeated with extreme regularity every 2–4 seconds for long periods throughout the night. Habitat: Open woodlands, parks, orchards, and clearings, such as those in the Mount Etna park, nesting in tree cavities. Size & Appearance: One of Europe's smallest raptors (around 20 cm long, slightly larger than a sparrow) with tree-bark camouflage plumage that makes it nearly invisible by day. In the background, Susanna speaking about her instagram, the distant howl of a hound or stray dog can also be heard echoing through the countryside night. this is the twenty-nineght recording I did with my sonic presence sp15c
