Recordist's notes
The soundscape of today versus the soundscape of a memory…This is a recording I made today of the place where I used to go to elementary school. What you hear now is medium traffic, rhythmic, mostly made out of small cars and vans. Twenty years ago it was very different, there was no diverting route in my town for heavy traffic so lorries used to drive through this very street. There used to be a tram line as well carrying people from one end of the city to the other (later it was dismantled). The rhythm was much more syncopated as heavy traffic was not all throughout the day, but was noisy, loud and low-frequency-based. The tram was the constant, with its metallic overtones. Now all of these are just sonic memories, sonic flashbacks that the mind brings when all it can hear is traffic, traffic, traffic. Recorded with Zoom H2n in surround mode
