Recordist's notes
Carnival aftermath. An open coffin containing a devilish monster, people dressed in long black coats and top hats, enjoying midday beers, listening to their house band (clarinet, euphonium, banjo, wonderful snaking brass tuba) playing tuneful melodies, rudely, unpleasantly, surprised by an excruciatingly loud stone flattening repair works on the other side of the square. The band stopped and eventually the machine stopped. The band resumed their celebration with 'Happy Birthday" only for the machine to start again. Faces darkened, glances in the machine's direction were made, imaginary daggers were drawn. The recordist walked around the square keeping his distance.
