Recordist's notes
Recording of Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, as it approaches the National Museum of Transportation. Recording made from atop an overpass as the train passed underneath, exited and continued to the museum. Sounds of amazement are heard from rail fans who turned out to see the train on its coast to coast tour. There is also a helicopter overhead. Recording made from a spaced pair of omni microphones mounted to a bicycle used as a mic bar and mixed with sounds from a geophone attached to the bike’s steel frame.
