About the Hooded crow
The Hooded crow is a bird in the family Corvidae (order Passeriformes). Adults have a wingspan of about 98 cm.
What does the Hooded crow sound like?
Most birds have two kinds of vocalisation: songs, which are learned or innate phrases delivered mainly in spring and summer, and calls – brief contact, alarm and begging notes heard all year round. Listening for both helps with identification.
The recordings here are labelled as call and каркання. Listen for differences in rhythm, pitch and repetition – the spectrum display makes it easy to see whether a sound is a pure whistle (a thin line), a harsh call (a broad band) or a trill (rapid repeated marks).
From Wikipedia
The hooded crow (Corvus cornix), also colloquially called just hoodie, is a Eurasian bird subspecies of the carrion crow (Corvus corone) in the genus Corvus. Widely distributed, it is found across Northern, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, as well as parts of the Middle East. It is an ashy-grey bird with black head, throat, wings, tail, and thigh feathers, as well as a black bill, eyes, and feet. Like other corvids, it is an omnivorous and opportunistic forager and feeder.
In 2002, the hooded crow was separated from the carrion crow and classified as its own species by the British Ornithologists' Union. However, in 2025, the new global AviBase re-classified the hooded and carrion crows as the same species, with the species divided into six subspecies, of which four are 'hooded' grey-and-black, and two are all-black.
